Every list of Arc browser alternatives contains the same six names, and none of the lists agree on the order. Zen, Vivaldi, Orion, Safari, Edge, Dia. For a personal machine, a browser receiving only upstream engine updates is a known quantity and often an acceptable one. The successor has a hardware requirement, and it excludes some Macs
Following the advice on Arc's own homepage means installing Dia, and that instruction carries a condition that the banner does not mention. The Dia download page states the requirement plainly: it is currently available on Apple macOS 14 and later, with M1 chips or later.
That sentence removes an entire class of machine from the recommended path. An Intel MacBook Pro, including models sold as recently as 2020, cannot run the browser being offered as the successor, no matter how current its operating system is. The same applies to any Mac held back on macOS 13 by a department policy or by an application that has not been recertified.

Read the table by the last column, not the first. Two products in different rows can both be excellent and still be answers to questions nobody asked. A configuration heavy browser does not fix account collisions, and an application oriented tool does not make research branches easier to close.
What the move actually costs
Most switches fail in the second week, not the first, and the reasons are consistent enough to plan for.
Extensions are decided by engine, so check them before anything else.
