Searching for a Brave alternative rarely means the browser stopped working. It usually means something specific became uncomfortable: the token icon in the address bar, a headline about an old incident, a company nobody in the office has heard of, or the quieter realisation that the workday did not get any easier after switching. Those four reasons point at four different replacements, and picking the wrong one produces a migration that costs two weeks and changes nothing.

Sort the objection before picking the replacement
The four reasons behind this search are not variations of each other. They have different answers.

The track record. Two published incidents account for most of the doubt. In June 2020 the address bar was adding an affiliate code to the default completion for certain crypto-exchange addresses. Nothing improved. The browser was installed, pages got lighter, and the actual daily friction stayed exactly where it was. This one is worth the most attention and gets the least.

If the objection is the crypto layer, the company, or the incidents, any mainstream browser resolves it, and the only real question is migration cost.
Safari has the lowest friction on a Mac, particularly for anyone whose iPhone already holds the same bookmarks and passwords. The cost is that ad and tracker blocking becomes an extension decision again rather than a default, and Google's profile documentation becomes the reference for separating accounts.
None of these three is a privacy downgrade by definition. Safari and Firefox both block cross-site tracking out of the box. Chrome does not, but Chrome with a well-chosen content blocker sits close to a stock Brave on list-based blocking. What none of them reproduce is Brave's engine-level fingerprint randomization, which is the one protection that does not transfer.
Extension availability is the row that decides this for many people. Safari extensions are distributed through the App Store and the catalogue is markedly smaller than the Chrome Web Store, so a specific workflow extension may simply not exist there. Notifications still arrive from eight directions with no single place to see them.
None of that is a browser-brand problem. It is the profile model, and the profile model is upstream of Brave, Chrome and every other Chromium build.
One profile holds one cookie jar. A second account for the same service requires a second profile, which means a second window, a second set of extensions, a second set of open tabs, and a habit of checking which window is in front before clicking a link from chat. Safari's profiles and Firefox's containers soften different parts of this, but the shape survives: account separation is expressed as a separation of browsing environments, and environments are things the user has to navigate between.
Swapping one browser for another moves this cost sideways. It never removes it. What gets lost when Brave is removed
