The answer to the narrow question is short. Chrome profiles carry no price. The useful part is everything that sits around that zero, because the cost of running several profiles is real and it is charged in units other than money.
The feature itself carries no price tag
Chrome is free to download for macOS, and profiles are part of the browser rather than an add-on to it. There is no profile limit tied to a payment, no upgrade that unlocks more of them, and no account tier that changes how they behave. A machine with eleven profiles and a machine with one are billed identically, which is to say not at all.

The pattern across the category is consistent. Free tiers exist and they are capped on the number of separate sessions, which is precisely the resource profiles hand out without limit. Paying removes the cap and adds the surrounding features. Profiles remove the cap for free and add nothing around it.
Disk space is the first bill that actually arrives
On a Mac, every profile is a directory inside the Chrome data folder in the user library. The first one created is named Default and every later one gets a numbered folder such as Profile 1 or Profile 3. Inside each sits a full set of files: a cookie database, a history database, saved login data, bookmarks, preferences, and an extensions directory.
Nothing in that set is shared between profiles. Two profiles running the same extension hold two copies of it. Two profiles visiting the same sites build two separate caches of the same images and scripts. This is why a machine can feel fine with forty tabs in one profile and struggle with twenty tabs spread across five. The tab count is lower and the overhead is higher, because the fixed cost of a profile gets paid five times. Chrome discards inactive tabs to claw memory back, and macOS compresses memory rather than simply running out, so the failure is rarely a crash. It is a gradual thickening. The third bill is the one paid in seconds. Moving between profiles means opening the menu at the top right, picking a name, waiting for the window to come forward, and then finding the right tab inside that window. Twenty seconds is a generous estimate for a single trip when everything goes well.
Counting the trips is the part worth doing, because the number is usually higher than expected. A support request that arrives in a personal inbox and needs an answer from a work account is one round trip. A calendar invite opened from the wrong profile is another. Anyone moving between two Gmail accounts and two workspaces all day will pass through that menu dozens of times.
Time spent this way has an odd property: it is not just the seconds. The pause is long enough to break attention and short enough to feel like nothing, which is why it never gets attributed to the browser. Monthly and one time pricing swap places at a certain number of years
When a paid option does look justified, the comparison that matters is not the monthly figure against zero. It is the total across however long the tool will be in use.
